Reflective Protocols - Closing Night
Join interdisciplinary installation artist Zane A. Miller on July 6th from 7 pm to 12 am (or so) at Garage 129, 129 McDowell Street, Columbus Ohio, for the closing event of Reflective Protocols. With this interactive art experience, your actions bring the space to life. Work exhibited in this show has seen repeated residence at the Columbus Museum of Art in 2018 and 2024 as a feature of the annual Wonderball celebration. It has also been a juried finalist of ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and has been visited by over fifty thousand individuals.
Reflective Protocols is a collection of works derived from an interest in exploring perception to understand the detailed nature of experience. Relating to the investigative veins of Andrea Fraser, Fred Sandbeck, Bruce Nauman, and Dan Graham, among others, this work aims to enforce the contrast between perceptual and physical experience of space while allowing viewers to become aware of their participation as subject and object. Reflective Protocols exist between a presence and void, functioning at the intersection of the geometric object and experience. The self is multiplied and surveilled, unconscious and self-conscious, lost and found. It is acknowledged as present, a fact, and a fiction.
Participants are encouraged to borrow a flashlight provided by the space or use their cell phone light to explore the works, each of which holds secrets to discover when engaged. Zane will also be present throughout the evening to discuss the installation and to answer any questions. He will also provide helpful hints for how to move and interact if needed. Bring your friends and come enjoy this “fine art funhouse” for its last evening in Garage 129, a DIY space dedicated to providing accessibility to experiencing art while evoking imagination and inspiring the community. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated.
